For more than a decade, students of Santa Fe Community College’s Intro to Ableton Live class have left the classroom behind to take the best final ever–performing their music for a live audience. This semester, that tradition continues with “TRANSCENDENCE”. “TRANSCENDENCE”: The world beyond the world; the experience beyond imagination. “TRANSCENDENCE” is not just a FREE musical event, but a moment in time when you can find the extraordinary in the ordinary. Luke McMurray Nutting -

Luke McMurray Nutting is a song-writer and musician living in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Previous projects include garage-soul duo Winstons and solo project Ginger Ale in Brooklyn, NY, and, before that, Red Rattles and 6 Day Bender in Charlottesville, VA. Nutting released his first EP under his own name,“Confidence Man,” in June 2020, which he wrote, produced, and recorded.

His follow-up self-produced LP , “Getting to Lupita,” was released in August 2021.

Nutting plays and writes roots music and rock’n’roll. In his seventeen-year career, Nutting has had the pleasure of opening for the likes of Alabama Shakes, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Twin Peaks, The Whigs, Matthew Vasquez, and Titus Andronicus.

St. Range -

Born of blood, sweat and tears, The Strange is the culmination of many lives who have influenced what would become one of The Southwest's most creative and hard-working true rock acts. Described as "young outlaws" the members of The Strange have battled through many a hardship and hurdle in the process of bringing their brand of "desert rock" to the ears of the region. With no official source of support, the band has managed to tour extensively across the Southwest, West Coast, and Texas as well as having landed some impressive gigs in their hometown.

Justin Lindsey's honest songwriting accented by the powerful and soulful sound that Mitchell Lacassagne, Andy Diekmann and Braden Anderson provide create a familiar, yet exciting new rock experience.

Fire For The People / King Magnolia

Fire for the People is an instrumental rock band based in Santa Fe, NM. With backgrounds in jazz, rock and folk, guitarists Evan Kottle and Tony Burling use a unique sense of songwriting that includes interwoven guitar melodies and heavy rock anthems. It’s all grounded by Mike Petersen on bass and Dave Wayne on drums.


Formed and based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, King Magnolia is the collaborative recording project of five multi-instrumentalist musicians from cult favorite New Mexican bands like Mind Your Dinosaur, Regular Humans, and the Kenny Crowley Band. Lauded for their expressive pocket work, King Magnolia plays between genres, creating compositions focused on tight harmonies, originality, and explosive solos. The project draws its expansive, rock-forward auditory signature from a diverse array of artists, including Paul Simon, the Grateful Dead, Broken Social Scene, Chopin, Stanton Moore, Radiohead, Miles Davis, the Beatles, Jobin, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Robert Johnson. Zaphica was formed in Santa Fe, New Mexico in early 2022. Their first year as a band saw them recording and releasing their debut EP, "Inquisition". Inquisition featured compositions by members Reid Meuth and Brody Silver. Since then, the group recorded and released their debut album "Directions", which features all original material, again written by Meuth and Silver. In addition to recording, the band has found considerable success as live performers, as seen with their sold-out shows at Teatro Paraguas in November 2023 and Paradiso in January 2024.

Firebird FM, a 5-piece ABQ based band, plays original music inspired by the golden age of classic rock radio hits of the 80's, 90's, and 00's.

Free Range Buddhas is a psychedelic rock and roll band with chewy space phaser vibes and a sparkly folk-punk mystique. These qualities are showcased in their latest album "Ritual," released March 25th 2022. They have a classic vintage feel, embracing some of their more far-out tendencies while cultivating a modern rock sound that is uniquely their own with a folk-punk underbelly that keeps everything driving and pulsating. The music of Free Range Buddhas pulls folks up out of their chairs and onto the dance floor. They want you to let your freak flag fly and follow the music wherever it takes you! Front woman, Francesca Jozette, writes songs with an essence of mysticism, raw emotion, and tenderly soulful vulnerability. Her lyrics are clever and catchy, and the band's grooves make you want to boogie. Boogie on friends!

FOLK - Gerry Carthy

Carthy plays the music on a variety of instruments. His repertoire includes the Folk Music of Northern New Mexico and American tunes and ballads. He touches on different strains of Irish music. The traditional dance tunes - jigs, reels, hornpipes, polkas and he has a particular fondness for slow airs; the old ballads brought to life first by the Clancy Brothers in Greenwich Village in the sixties; the modern folk influence which started in Ireland with groups like Sweeney's Men, The Johnstons, Emmet Spiceland and the electric folk band Steeleye Span who were based in England. From the Ceili Bands of the fifties to the polish of today's greatest exponents of traditional Irish music, The Chieftains, Carthy knows what he is doing. Added to this, his appreciation and sensitive interpretation of the music of the old travelling harpers of Ireland make Carthy's show an experience not to be missed!

Marc and Paula write songs in an eclectic style that has been described as Folkabilly Blues a new form of Americana music that is juicy mixture of jazzy blues and folk rock.Honored by NM Music Awards for Best Vocal of the Year 2021, previous nominations include Best Singer Songwriter, Best Novelty Song, Best Blues and Best Country.


They both have been active members of the Santa Fe NM Music scene for decades, and have played most venues in town from The Lensic Theater and Santa Fe Bandstand to the local Hotels and Clubs. They are available to perform as a duo, trio, or full band of 5 members.

Bill has won numerous music-industry awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award from New Mexico Music Commission and is an inductee to the Kerrville Folk Festival Hall of Fame. The film biography, “New Mexico Rain: The Story of Bill and Bonnie Hearne” captures their extraordinary life and career.

The songs of Glorieta Pines are inspired by the happenings of the world as seen through the lens of the American Southwest.

The trio, comprised of Brian Nelson (guitars), Lindsay Taylor (mandolin, fiddle) and Karina Wilson (fiddle), combines insightful songwriting and textured arrangements with tight vocal harmonies to achieve their unique blend of acoustic music.

 

Hailing from the Northern New Mexican towns of Glorieta and Santa Fe, each of the three members of Glorieta Pines has been making music with a variety of artists and bands for years. The Glorieta Pines project originated in 2020 as a duo between spouses Lindsay Taylor and Brian Nelson, with early performances including official virtual concerts for both the Brighton Fringe and Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2021. 

 

The addition of Karina Wilson on fiddle in June of 2022 saw the polished arrangements and vocal harmonies of the duo format expand, with extended instrumental sections and deeper sonic textures, carrying Glorieta Pines’ original songs to new heights.

He has shared the stage with such notables as Jefferson Airplane, The Righteous Brothers and John Fahey. He has been playing the "coffee house" circuit off and on for over 40 years. One of his earliest and strongest influences was Canadian singer/songwriter Gordon Lightfoot.

Barak Hill is a singer-songwriter from Spring­field, Missouri, the winner of American Songwriter Magazine’s 2012 Santa Cruz Guitar Song Contest, and was named one of the top three solo musicians in Southwest Missouri in a 417 Magazine readers’ poll. Barak tours regularly and has shared the stage with a wide range of artists — from popular regional bands like Big Smith and The Ben Miller Band to national artists like Jay Farrar (Son Volt) and Amanda Shires (Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit). Barak’s songs and sound run in the same vein as Amos Lee, Josh Ritter, Steve Earle, and Gillian Welch. It’s heartbroken Americana hanging on to a fistful of hope that things might just get better. Honest, well-crafted lyrics set to strong melodies connect with people on an intimate, personal level.

Kenny Crowley:

A compelling and original voice in the Americana arena, Kenny Crowley can ease you back against warm guitar melodies and a pure, buttery vocal delivery. Regaling you with meaningful lyrics spun from life experience, Kenny's style comes steeped in a rich and eclectic blend of American roots music that is sure to get you in the feels.
